We all have limiting beliefs. They come in different shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common: they limit our capacity to achieve our goals and dreams.

Limiting beliefs by definition are self-imposed or ingrained beliefs that limit our potential and hinder our development. They could be beliefs about ourselves – our skills, abilities, or worth – or they could be misguided beliefs about our external environment – what limits us or what is predicted to happen to us. These are manifested either through thoughts or feelings.

In order to recognize these limiting beliefs, we need to take a moment to reflect on our own beliefs, intentions, and patterns. To do this we can ask ourselves questions such as: What is something I feel like I can’t do? Where does this feeling come from? What self-talk am I engaging in?

Once we’ve identified the limiting belief, the next step is to start challenging it. We can do this by reflecting on our values and understanding what is important to us in life. We must make sure that these values are in alignment with our goals and purposeful action.

When simply reflecting on our values is not enough, we can try to discover new ways to achieve our goals. We can look for mentors, take classes or seminars, and explore new perspectives in order to unpack our limiting beliefs.

We must also look to replace the negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Positive affirmations help us to recognize and identify our own power and to be open to new opportunities and experiences.

By replacing our limiting beliefs with a positive attitude and taking purposeful action, we can finally overcome our negative thought patterns and rise above our perceived limitations.
